Old love hearts represent
the constant state of flux that comes along
with the “changes of heart” throughout
one’s life. Each heart has gone
through a process called “heat scarring” which
melts the surface on the top of the metal,
causing the metal to buckle, swirl and change
colors. Each heat scarring process produces
different results, depending on the amount
of heat involved and how long the flame remains
close to the metal. I then place the
scarred piece of metal into a heart shaped
die which is “puffed” into it’s
3-dimensional shape in a hydraulic press. Because
the heat scarring process creates holes and
thin areas in the metal, the heart essentially “explodes” and
breaks apart when it is forced by the pressure
into the mold. I then carefully “stitch” the
heart back together, add beautiful gemstones
and stamp messages onto the back of each heart.
Each heart is different, unique, and one of
a kind. |
