The beautiful luminescent “gems” in my newest line of work is cast glass.  First, a form is created in clay.  I then pour a plaster cast over the form to create a mold.  When the mold dries I dig out the clay and am left with a negative impression.  I fill the negative space with glass “frit” and fire it in a kiln at 1550 degrees.  The glass slumps into the mold after being fired for over 8 hours.  I break the mold to remove the glass, so each piece is one of a kind.  I polish the edges and fabricate a setting from silver, copper, or both, and often embellish with a colorful gemstone.  This process produces luminescent glass forms with amazing texture and depth.  Visit the “classes and workshops” section of the website to learn to cast glass!

The above designs can be made in three different color combinations.  Pick your favorite and I’ll create a fabulous custom piece just for you!

1.  Earth tones...illustrated above in Cast Glass Earrings, Tribal X, and Submarine. A subtle blend of ambers, browns, clear, and a little lavender.

2.  Blue/Green...illustrated in Mandala.  Looks like a Florida ocean.

3.  Multi-color...illustrated in Reflecting Pool and Teepee.

The best colors of the rainbow beautifully mixed.

Because each piece comes out different, I choose a gemstone that works best with the glass casting.  If you want to be specific about the gemstone for your piece, email me and I’ll work with you.
